Five Ways To Beat Driving Test Nerves
Nerves can be such a big part of sitting a driving test. It’s natural to feel a little nervous, as it’s likely you have a lot invested in passing your test. Luckily, there are some things we can do to make sure we beat our nerves when it comes to a driving test. Read on to find out what they are.
Keep your test date and time under your hat
There is enough pressure on you to pass your test without advertising what you are doing! Even people wishing you well can ramp up the anxiety without knowing it. With that in mind, it’s best to keep the date and the time of your test under your hat, and only tell people on a need-to-know basis. Then, if you don’t pass, you won’t have all that pressure of having to tell everyone.
Eat well beforehand
When anxiety is involved it can be easy to stop eating altogether. However, this isn’t a good idea, as being hungry may impact your concentration during your test. With that in mind, eating a light meal like a sandwich or a salad around an hour before your test is the best approach. You may even want to have a cereal bar right before your test too, just like you would in a written exam!
Reduce psych out time
Overthinking before your test will only lead to you getting psyched out. Instead, book in advance, and on the day keep busy doing something unrelated. If possible, do some exercise, as this will help you burn off nervous energy and keep your mind off your driving test. Acknowledge that it may take you several times to pass
Most people take more than one driving test to pass, and this is okay. Putting pressure on yourself to pass the first time can do the opposite of what you want, and make it harder for you. Instead, why not treat your first test as a mock for your real one, and then it’s a bonus if you do end up passing.
Keep your caffeine consumption low
Next, if you want to reduce your anxiety on the day of your test, sticking to a single cup of tea or coffee in the morning is a good idea. After all, caffeine is great for waking us up, but it also aggravates those anxious feelings. With that in mind, stay hydrated with non-caffeinated drinks. Oh, and make sure you leave yourself enough time to head to the loo before the test!
