Independent garage scheme urges motorists to make their voices heard
Motorists are being given the chance to have their voices heard by nationwide independent garage scheme Trust My Garage (TMG). The organisation has launched a customer feedback section on its website, and is encouraging motorists to post comments about its member garages they visit for a service, repair or MOT.
Trust My Garage was set up by the Independent Garage Association (IGA) following a government call for better regulation of independent garages in the UK.
Terry Gibson of Trust My Garage said giving motorists the chance to tell them what is good – or bad – about their members will be an important part of its service. And when a comment isn’t positive, Trust My Garage will immediately act to resolve a complaint. Even if an unjustified comment is left, Trust My Garage will allow the review but provide a comment to reassure other potential customers. This way consumer’s will be able to make their own judgement about the garage based on the views of all consumers, not just the most satisfied ones.
“People using our website will be able to read honest, independent reviews from motorists about their experiences of garages in their area,” said Terry. “We trust our garages – but we also trust our consumers as they are the true auditors of the garages in the scheme. This is an important part of our work to raise standards in the independent garage industry. We want people to speak positively about our members and our consumer feedback service will enable them to do this. It will also alert us to any problems consumers may have been experiencing with our members so we can immediately act to resolve any issues.”
And in the future, when Trust My Garage becomes an official government approved code through the Trading Standards Institute Consumer Code Approval Scheme, there will be even more safeguards for motorists. Once the application is successful, customers who have a problem with the service they receive will be reassured that the investigation will be backed by Trading Standards
Terry said: “We will work alongside Trading Standards and other consumer bodies ensure that the Trust My Garage network consists of the very best independent garages throughout the UK.”
TRUST MY GARAGE (TMG) is a scheme developed for independent garages by the Independent Garage Association (IGA) to recognise the high standards of independent garages throughout the UK.
